Rapunzel (live)

I wanted to give the classic fairytale an update in this slam poem, performed at Byron Theatre for V-day 2018. I felt that ‘Rapunzel’ had more to say than the story usually shows. I wanted to revive the sensual, feminine power, the tale of desire, which seems buried under its surface. Throughout history, the story has been mostly told by women, but those who wrote it down were mostly men.

This retelling is for all women of our time. If you like it, please share it around. You can also read more about the process of creating this poem here.

The Vagina Conversations features women from Byron telling their own stories. All money raised goes to the Byron Shire Escape Fund to assist women moving on from domestic violence.

Language warning: This performance contains one reference to female genitalia using a powerful word starting with ‘c’. The intention is to reclaim it rather than offend.
